(Nov 18, 2024) - Developers working in artificial intelligence (AI) are prioritizing practical resources that enhance efficiency and reduce development friction, with 36% identifying code examples for general AI domains as their most pressing need, according to the latest AI & Machine Learning Survey Report 24.1 by Evans Data Corp.

The survey, which captured responses from developers across various experience levels, reveals the critical tools developers require to stay agile in the fast-evolving AI landscape. Performance optimization tools ranked second, with 27.5% of respondents citing them as essential, followed closely by training in new tools and techniques (26.7%).

Interestingly, the data emphasizes that even seasoned developers value access to code samples and snippets, underscoring their role in avoiding redundant efforts and accelerating AI workflows. While large-scale sample applications demand closer scrutiny for effective integration, developers acknowledge that such tools are indispensable, particularly when adopting new platforms and technologies.

Additional needs highlighted in the report include tutorials on best practices for explainable and ethical AI (25.1%), better documentation for tools and platforms (24.8%), and access to AI-optimized processors and accelerators (23.4%). Collaborative tools and access to training data also emerged as key areas where developers seek improvements, each capturing over 20% of the respondents' attention.

This survey reveals the practical challenges AI developers encounter, offering insights for vendors and industry leaders to support AI advancement. The findings highlight the changing needs of developers in a competitive field.
