Abstract

In the Spring of 2010, Evans Data conducted a survey of developers worldwide to gauge satisfaction and attitudes about Frameworks and Web Platforms. This is the first time this type of survey has been released since this new way of building applications has only been introduced in the past few years. Users of these systems were asked to rank the products across nine different features. Level of satisfaction across each attribute is cited between “Very Satisfied” to "Very Unsatisfied". Results are given a numerical value and weighted according to feature importance. In summary, a clear picture of the strengths and weaknesses of each product offering emerges, and a standalone winner rises to the top.

The frameworks included in this user satisfaction survey are:

  • Apache Axis
  • Apache Struts
  • Google App Engine
  • Google Web Toolkit
  • Java Server Faces
  • Microsoft MFC
  • Microsoft .NET
  • Microsoft Win32
  • Oracle ADF
  • Spring
  • Rails
  • Zend

The attributes and capabilities rated are:

  • Ease of Use
  • Extensibility
  • Lightweight
  • Performance
  • Flexibility
  • Program Flow
  • Simplicity
  • Object Inheritence
  • Community Support

With the valuable information compiled in this report, you are now able to make intelligent and educated decisions about which Framework is best for your company!
