AI in Cloud Development: Who’s Leading and Who’s Lagging?
63% of developers have already built cloud applications using AI or machine learning—but not all are moving at the same pace. Some are racing ahead, while others are holding back. The question is: why?
System integrators (SIs) and value-added resellers (VARs) are leading the way, with 63% already incorporating AI into cloud applications. Their client-driven work demands rapid adoption to stay competitive. If their customers need AI, they need AI—there’s no waiting.
In contrast, independent software vendors (ISVs) building commercial applications for external sale show more hesitation. Only 55% have implemented AI so far, while a substantial 41% are still in the planning phase. Unlike SIs, ISVs must weigh innovation against market readiness, ensuring their AI features offer clear differentiation and customer value.
Corporate enterprise developers, focused on internal applications, sit in the middle. 62% have adopted AI, but future adoption plans are more conservative. Unlike external-facing companies, enterprises often navigate budget cycles, regulatory concerns, and long-term strategic planning before fully committing to AI integration.
The takeaway? AI adoption in the Cloud isn’t just about capability—it’s about business priorities. Some developers move fast because their customers demand it. Others wait to ensure the investment pays off. Understanding these differences is key for anyone supporting developers with AI-driven tools and services.
Where does your company fit in? What’s driving—or delaying—your AI adoption?
