Developer Views on Big Tech and Government
A significant 84% of developers believe that "big tech" coordinates with the government behind the scenes, with younger developers showing a particularly strong inclination. Among those aged 30 and under, 53.8% strongly agree with this view, according to the latest Developer Marketing Survey Report 2024.
The belief in behind-the-scenes coordination seems to be fueled by recent developments such as the UK's Online Safety Act and the European Commission’s Digital Services Act, both of which have raised concerns about privacy, encryption, and content regulation. These legislative moves have undoubtedly shaped developer perceptions, with younger generations especially attuned to the implications of these changes.
As companies that sell to and support developers, understanding these perceptions is critical. How do you see the relationship between government regulations and big tech impacting your developer community? Are these views influencing your marketing and product development strategies?
How do you think these perceptions will impact the future of tech?
