SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- June 8, 2010 – Collaboration tools, followed by enterprise instant messaging, and logistical tools were cited by global developers as the most important enterprise applications for mobile devices according to Evans Data's newly released Mobile Development Survey, 2010. Mobile developers saw these as much more important than social networking tools and blogging features.
"With the emergence of new mobile platforms, the proliferation of more complex mobile devices in the workplace and the rapid growth of mobile applications, the enterprise is under pressure to support the business benefits of mobility directly." said Janel Garvin, CEO of Evans Data. "Mobile platforms are already much more than just an adjunct in the enterprise development arena."
The Mobile Development Survey 2010 is the latest release from Evans Data's mobile series in which global developers share their views on the mobile market. This worldwide survey of over 400 mobile developers is published twice a year.
Other highlights of the survey include:
- Two thirds of developers indicate that they do not use cross-compilation tools to help port applications between platforms.
- The biggest difficulty for mobile developers is cross-platform testing.
- Security is the most important feature when considering platforms to target for mobile applications.
