SANTA CRUZ, CA. September 26, 2014 – Security is often an immediate concern for developers extending their cloud applications to mobile clients. In fact, security is clearly cloud developers’ top concern with mobile app development frameworks, but developers who currently develop applications within a public cloud are nearly 37% more likely than those who do not to view security as the top concern. According to Evans Data Corporation’s most recent Cloud Development Survey, 46% of public cloud developers’ top concern with mobile app development frameworks is, in fact, security.
Other considerations, such as scalability, reliability, and cost, are clearly less prevalent. The survey, which was conducted in July and examines the technology adoption and intentions of over 500 cloud developers, also found that the data center was the most likely trouble spot for Cloud security, cloud developers see advanced encryption as the biggest security issue for data centers, and the majority of cloud developers set up data security for auditing.
"Along with cost, security considerations are nearly pervasive for cloud developers," said James Owen, analyst with Evans Data Corp, "and these data reflect just how pervasive security considerations have become.â€
Other highlights from this comprehensive survey of cloud developers include:
--- Thirty-five percent of cloud developers report that advanced encryption is the biggest security issue for data centers, but 26% report that it is anti-tampering data security.
--- The ease of managing changes to software design is the biggest factor in determining if developers build new tools and environments in the Cloud or migrate existing tool sets to the Cloud.
--- Fifty-one percent of cloud developers actually use data encryption technologies to address their organization’s cloud security needs.
Evans Data Corporation’s Cloud Development Survey is now in its sixth year and consists of in-depth survey interviews with over 500 developers who develop within or deploy to a cloud environment. Its content reflects the changing concerns of subscribers in the rapidly evolving landscape of cloud development.
