Santa Cruz, CALIF. (July 1, 2020) According to Evans Data's recently released Global Development Survey report, 54.7% of developers worldwide use Microsoft's Teams for remote development collaboration. This is compared to 42.3% using Zoom, 38.6% using Google Hangouts and 31.4% using WebEx. Teams was the number-one choice in all regions, while Zoom was second in the APAC and EMEA region and in North America. Google Hangouts topped Zoom in Latin America.
The survey, which was fielded this spring in six languages worldwide across four regions and in all major countries, also asked developers how the COVID-19 Pandemic has affected them professionally. When asked, over 45% of developers stated that they coded less than a quarter of their development work at home before the virus. Only about fifteen percent did 75% or more of their coding from home. Now, half (49.6%) report spending over 75% of their development time working at home and almost a third are working exclusively from home
"Exogenous factors often help speed changes that are in progress to begin with," said Janel Garvin, Evans Data CEO. "And this is true for the way that developers work and interact with their teams. While many developers were already using remote collaboration tools and coordinating their development efforts remotely, the lockdown that the world has experienced has amplified that tendency."
Conducted biannually and now in its 44th edition, the Evans Data Global Development survey provides a comprehensive reference of over 300 pages of data, analysis and deep dives into a broad range of software issues.
