(November 28, 2023) - The worldwide developer population is expected to maintain a healthy growth rate of 2.7% over the next five years, according to Evans Data Corp.’s recently released Worldwide Developer Population Survey Report. Exciting technological advancements such as generative AI, robotics, and quantum computing are inspiring new developers to enter the field while also keeping older developers interested and engaged, inciting an optimistic outlook for future developer population growth.

With the COVID-19 pandemic largely behind us, all regions have returned to pre-pandemic growth rates except for EMEA. With a growth rate of 1.9% in 2023, credence must be given to the economic woes created by the Russia-Ukraine war. North America leads the world with the highest developer population growth rate at 3.9%, followed by APAC at 3.7%, and Latin America at 3.5%. Despite geo-political and socioeconomic climates, the progression of developer population is back on the rise.

Technological advancements such as generative AI have significantly influenced the trajectory of developer population this year. In fact, of the entire worldwide developer population, 52% are using AI or machine learning in their development work, while 42% have plans to use this new technology in the near future. The pertinence of this new tech has encouraged many to join the industry bolstering the developer population this year and is anticipated to continue recruiting members into the tech industry.
