SANTA CRUZ, CA, June 19, 2006 - Security breaches are hitting record lows in the EMEA region. According the latest Evans Data EMEA Development Survey just over 47% of developers are reporting breaches, which is almost a 20% drop from spring 2004. EMEA developers are also reporting less worm and buffer overflow attacks. Accounting for 22% of all breaches are computer viruses, making it still the most common attack. Despite the reduction in overall security breaches, developers are seeing more Web related attacks (12%).
“Internet-enabled software applications, especially custom applications, present the most common security risk encountered today,“ said John Andrews, President, Evans Data. “Overall we’re witnessing better software security practices early in the software lifecycle, which is positively affecting overall security breachesâ€.
Other findings from the Spring 2006 survey of almost 400 developers in the EMEA region:
- Linux penetration as a primary platform is expected to double to just over 10% in the coming year.
- Opportunities in translation. Sixty three percent of developers place emphasis on translation efforts, yet only 30% are participating in related activities.
- New offerings. Developers expect Windows Vista to achieve a 20% share of the market within its first reporting period.
